I dreamed I had an interview with GOD
하나님을 인터뷰하는 꿈을 꿨습니다.
"so you would like to interview me?" GOD asked.
"If you have the time," I said.
"네가 나를 인터뷰 하고 싶다고 했니?" 하나님이 물으셨습니다.
"시간이 있으시다면," 내가 말했습니다.
GOD smiled.
하나님은 미소지었습니다.
"My time is eternity... what questions do you have in mind for me?"
"나의 시간은 영원이다... 무엇이 묻고 싶니?"
"What surprises you most about humankind?"
"사람들을 보면 뭐가 제일 신기하지요?"
GOD answered.
하나님이 대답했습니다.
"That they get bored with childhood, they rush to grow up,
and then long to be children again."
"사람들은 어린 시절을 지루해 하지. 그래서 빨리 자라길 바라고
그리고는 늙어서는 다시 그 시절로 되돌아가길 바라지."
"That they lose their health to make money...
and then lose their money to restore their health."
"돈을 벌기 위해서 건강을 잃어 버리고
그리고는 건강을 되찾기 위해서 돈을 잃어 버리지."
"That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present,
such that they live in neither the present nor the future."
"미래를 염려하다가 현재를 잊어버려.
마치 사람들은 미래에도 현재에도 살지 않는 것 같이."
"That they live as if they will never die,
and die as though they had never lived."
"죽지 않을 것처럼 살더니 살았던 적이 없었던 것처럼 죽지."
GOD's hand took mine and we were silent for a while.
하나님이 나의 손을 잡아 줬습니다. 그리고 우리는 잠시 침묵에 빠졌죠.
And then I asked,
그리고 난 물었습니다.
"As a parent, what are some of life's lessons
you want your children to learn?"
"아버지로서 자녀들이 어떤 것들을 배웠으면 하시나요?"
"To learn they cannot make anyone love them.
All they can do is let themselves be loved."
"다른 사람이 자기를 사랑하게 만들 수는 없다는 것을.
단지 자기가 사랑받게끔 놓아두는 것 뿐이라는 것을."
"To learn that it is not good to compare themselves to others."
"다른 이들과 비교하는 것이 좋지 않다는 것을"
"To learn to forgive by praticing forgiveness."
"용서함으로 용서를 배우기를"
"To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open profound wounds in those they love.
and it can take many years to heal them."
"사랑하는 사람에게 커다란 상처를 주눈 데는 단지 몇 초의 시간 밖에 걸리지 않지만
그 상처가 아물기에는 몇 년의 시간이 걸린다는 것을."
"To learn that a rich person is not one who has the most,
but is one who needs the least."
"부자는 가장 많이 가진 사람이 아니라 가장 적게 필요한 사람이라는 것을."
"To learn that there are people who love them dearly,
but simply do not yet know how to express or show their feelings."
"너희에게 사랑을 표현 못하거나 말하지 못하는 사람 중에서도
너희를 깊이 사랑하는 사람이 있다는 것을."
"To learn that two people can look at the same thing and see it differently."
"두 사람이 같은 것을 보고서도 다르게 느낄 수 있다는 것을."
"To learn that it is not enough that they forgive one another,
but they must also forgive themselves."
"다른 사람을 용서하는 것만이 아니라 자기를 용서해야 된다는 것을."
"thank you for your time," I said humbly.
"시간을 내주셔서 감사합니다." 나는 겸손히 말했습니다.
"Is there anything else you'd like your children to know?"
"당신의 자녀들이 알았으면 하는 다른 것들은요?"
GOD smiled and said...
하나님이 미소지으며 말했습니다...
"Just know that I am here."
"내가 너희와 함께 여기에 있다는 것."
